Why wouldn't anyone just scream out that it was only a STARTING PISTOL. Just say it! Or blame the sniper shots on the dead guy! I mean, it was his fault, anyways! Obviously, I'm not saying anything the police did was in any way correct procedurally or morally, but the fact that none of the men, while pinned against the wall by the cops and put under so much distress, mentioned that the gun wasn't real... bothered me. The text at the end gives the film enough license to include a line like "It wasn't a real gun! It was just a starting pistol!" from one of the men, and the writer could have even had the police ignore the exclamation to further the inhumanity of the particular police officers.
Pacing faltered toward the end.
Bigelow's style from her past few films continues here, and it luckily fits the subject matter.
Mostly universally good performances, although no one gets too much time to "shine," so to speak. I thought Boyega and Poulter were quite good.
That font at the beginning and end was reeeeeeaaaaalllly bad.
