The script could have used some more work—maybe another pass to cut out half the dialogue from everybody other than Bill Murray—but I had a great time. It’s like an affluent The Daytrippers. A lighter take on similar themes in Coppola’s other work.
As always, it’s awesome to see a film that’s set in modern times be shot on 35mm. They went with a super sharp, clean look (even though it was according to IMDb shot entirely with 500T? not sure how that’s possible), as opposed to Lost in Translation’s soft look.
Will be fun to revisit. Thankfully, it falls into the better half of Murray’s filmography. I’m hoping it’s one of those that’ll be able to satisfy my itch for Bill Murray-isms whenever I feel the urge. We’ll see if that’s the case in a few months on a random Sunday night—will I turn on On the Rocks? Or will it be Groundhog Day, Rushmore, Scrooged, What About Bob, etc?
I think I was the only person to laugh in my theater... y’all need to lighten up.
